since the beginning of written text with the story of Gilgamesh. The reason behind this choice in style is not only in the form of good storytelling, but to empower
these kingly characters with divine magic to prove that they are "the chosen ones," that no other being could have accomplished the tasks set for them.
The powers of magic and myth pull readers into the story. They are used to set individual characters apart from other by making them just a cut
above. Everything is used to bring this about, particularly magical symbolism, but as it is set within the period. For example, Beowulf is the story of the "Spear-Danes" and the
"kings who ruled them." He is "born a cub," but through experience and divine guidance, becomes a great boar. He does so by wearing the boars head, for instance, and
thereby becoming the boar in battle, deferring to the beasts wisdom and power. The image of the boar is used to
protect and guard the warrior, but in this case, it represents the king protecting and guarding the nation against all intruders that wish it harm. The horned boar is
also a part of the power of the trine, the horned god in magical myth. By having this as the ultimate powers symbol, this particular warrior can be nothing short
of "the chosen one." In medieval times, the highest of the highest of humans were worshipped as "gods," and the highest were crowned with horns.
