of industry and illustrate different aspects of diversity. SBC Communications see leadership as one of their core competences, which comes from an employee centric approach. The view from the company
is that the diversity that they embrace is more than the socially responsible and ethically correct; it is also part of their strategy in the market place. SBC are place
investment in their employees, starting with the recruitment process time and effort is taken, then when in employment the staffs is given career development opportunities and the culture of self
expression is embraced. This gives an environment where different voices are heard, which can add to the input into decision and strategy processes (Thompson, 2005). The value added to the
company as a result of the diversity is reflected in the range of products and services offered. It may be argued that unless there was the diverse cultural base there
may not be the ability to offer comer support in over 150 languages and telephone bills that can be produced in both English and Spanish. The company has a large
number customer from minorities, this is aided with the diverse approach to marketing and communications; SBC working with a number of minority owned communications agencies ensure that the messages are
not only sent, but also received by the diverse customer base as well as other minatory owned suppliers with more than $600 million a year spent, this creates a great
