Once the tide of industrialization overtook the United States, sentiments quickly changed from tolerance to discrimination as Americans felt socially and economically threatened by what had come to be looked at as an invasion: People held fast to the notion that immigrants were quickly absorbing jobs meant for indigenous United States citizens. Despite the ebb and flow of cultural diversity, these attitudes perpetuated throughout subsequent decades and into the new millennium, with the workplace displaying some of the most uncivilized behavior. with the workplace displaying some of the most uncivilized behavior. The notion of one-way assimilation - where ethnic groups have no other option
but to integrate with the white culture and leave their heritage behind - is more of an appeasement than a true incorporation of cultural mores, inasmuch as it is the
most effective way for the dominating white class to control the lowly subordinates. Historically, cultural outsiders could reach a level of acceptance if they redirect their beliefs and behaviors;
however, an ever-growing attitude shift has made this an unacceptable option within the workplace. Companies have become more and more interactive in addressing gender and cultural prejudice within the
ranks so as not to perpetuate the ill-will that has typically existed. II. INTRODUCTION The workplace of the twenty-first century no longer
