It means that an employee takes something that belongs to the business, not to the employee. That could be outright money or it could be products. What complicates this issue

the 10-10-80 rule, which means 10 percent of the people will never steal a single thing, 10 percent will definitely steal if they have the opportunity to do so, and
80 percent may or may not steal dependent upon how they rationalize the opportunity to do so (Schaefer, 2008). Studies have shown that when employees believe they will be caught
stealing, fewer will attempt to steal anything (Schaefer, 2008). That leads directly to the code of conduct for the company and to communication between management and labor. Management must communicate
that the company has zero tolerance for theft and anyone who steals will not only be dismissed, they will face criminal charges (Schaefer, 2008). This code that is communicated frequently
and clearly should incorporate any type of theft, including time, e.g., employees always returning from breaks or lunch or arriving late are staling time (Schaefer, 2008). The company should actually
