RACIAL BIAS IN THE MEDIA The media have always held the precarious responsibility of being able to make or break their stories subjects, and entire races of people are no exception. By their very printed or spoken word, the media have been singularly accountable for a great many biases that exist toward minorities today. These "media moths" (Kroll PG), who appear to take delight in skewing the facts to publish a good story, have literally cast a shadow of disgrace upon many as a result of their racial bias. It is this racial bias that creates fear, whether real or imagined, especially in the elderly and for females. By simply listening to the nightly news or reading the daily paper we are immersed in gang war activity, racial problems, and especially attacks on the elderly and females. While there is indeed a place for keeping people well-informed and safe, the media has long since gone overboard in sensationalizing attacks and improprieties against these two more vulnerable groups. Holding the power to alter someones life is, indeed, not something to take lightly. However, it appears that those who report the news do not take into consideration the very lives their stories affect. It is as though there is no real person involved; that those represented in the story are merely fictional characters that exist only in the minds of the writers. In reality, the ethnic races that suffer the consequences of typically skewed reporting must endure the wrath of such distorted accounts in literally every aspect of their lives.
