engaged in a targeted disruptive barometer, the level is moved down accordingly (Cipani, 2008). Typically, behavioral standards are identified via a line on the barometer that indicates the baseline standard.
If the child keeps his or her behavior in the goal range, reinforcement is offered at the end of the period or school day (Cipani, 2008). The following hypothetical
example case study describes a fictional child named "Tony," who speaks out frequently in class, interrupting others. Prior to instigating the barometer intervention, the expected standard of behavior will be
carefully explained to Tony, that is, he would raise his hand when he wants to speak and wait until called upon, which helps everyone in the class to take turns.
To provide positive reinforcement, the teacher will call on Tony quickly whenever he raises his hand, but will wait longer before calling on Tony as he begins to show improvement
and can tolerate waiting his turn. Form 4.2 Individual Disruptive Incident Barometer Program: Teacher-Designated Plan Target child: "Tony" Target disruptive behavior(s): Tony tends to speak out in
class, saying whatever is on his mind, without raising his hand or taking turns. He rarely allows another child to speak first or answer a question without interrupting. Designated time
period(s): Third grade school day. Number of levels of incident barometer: 20 (baseline of 12). Present baseline data across 5 days/sessions: 1. Tony interrupted and spoke out of
turn a total of 21 times. 2. Total interruptions 15. 3. Total interruptions 18. 4. Total interruptions 24. 5. Total interruptions 17. Target behavioral standard: No more than
2 interruptions in a given day. Initial behavioral standard (number of levels that can be lost before losing reinforcement): 8. Line drawn between which two numbers: 12 and 18.
