Seven Dwarfs. The Disney name was associated with family entertainment and held the number one position for decades. Things began falling apart by the early 1980s, however. Walt had
died in 1966 and Roy in 1971. Society was changing and there was greater competition. By the 1980s, Disney was in serious trouble with some wondering if it was the
end. The company has many strengths, such as its brand name, but it also has many weaknesses, such as outmoded marketing strategies and its lack of an original story.
Worse, new technology presents a serious threat to animation companies. Recommendations for this company include establishing a clear vision, rededication to animation, strategic planning, developing an original and unique
story for animation and integrated marketing strategies. Introduction Disney has always been very protective of its name and reputation, which is a strength but it also left the company
in outmoded operational patterns. Licensing agreements that could have helped the companys net profit were seldom entertained. The company, since its founding, had always relied on childrens classic literature. The
animated films, like Snow White, Cinderella and so on were smash hits but there was a new generation of families. Disney tried to fit in with the new films with
Tron and The Black Hole but they were flops at the box office. Disney had lost something that was a cornerstone. As one writer put it, there was no heart
in either of these films. By 1984, Disney was in serious trouble. Stock prices fell as analysts removed the stock from their recommended lists. The company had no new
