Holy Grail will not suffice. It is not about the external exploits of King Arthurs knights of the Round Table, but is, instead, an introspective and highly spiritual text
that dares to probe what lurked within these rogues. For those who are unfamiliar with the Celtic legend, the Round Table was the name given to a select group
of knights who comprised King Arthurs inner circle. They were sworn to uphold the ancient code of chivalry, which meant that members of the Round Table must exhibit the
most exemplary characteristics of virtue at all times. The code was deeply rooted within the Christian religion, and the knights of the Round Table were not simply protectors of
the crown, but since it was believed the king was an emissary of god, they were regarded as defenders of Christianity as well. There was nothing more sacred than
the Holy Grail, which was the cup that caught the blood of Jesus Christ as he hung on the cross. According to the text, when a vision of the
Holy Grail appears, the knights swear an oath that they will make a quest to find the Holy Grail (Matarasso 45). However, before the knights can embark upon such an
undertaking, they must first prove themselves to be a true knight of the Christian faith, meaning that his moral character must be as untarnished as his suit of armor.
Those who have fallen prey to sin must, as the text points out, sufficiently repent and completely amend their behavior or they cannot perform what has become the number one
priority of the Round Table, to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. These knights will discover that actually transforming themselves into paragons of virtue is much easier said
