the following paper examines the power of the theme of disguise and role playing, or identity, in Shakespeares "Twelfth Night." The Theme of Disguise "Twelfth Night is Shakespeares
most approachable comedy...This is one of Shakespeares cross-dressing plays" (Universe). In this story we have the primary character, Viola, who "dresses as a boy but causes much confusion. Orsino thinks
she is a boy and sends her with messages of his love to Olivia" (Universe). At the same time we "Olivia falls in love with the boy who is really
Viola and who has fallen in love with Orsino. All this is very foolish and foolery is a main theme of the play" (Universe). In fact, it seems that "Shakespeare
