What role does ethics play in a project? Absolutely. Unethical business practices can lead to slipped schedules and budget overruns, and can
even place the entire project at risk of not being completed at all. The increased risk can arise in a number of areas, from improper sourcing to cultural biases
preventing the project team from operating at the greatest efficiency possible. Choosing a vendor based on unethical business practices (kickbacks, bribes, favors, etc.) rather than on the vendors ability
to produce what the project needs places the project at risk of not staying on schedule in that area and going over budget as a result. As example, a
programming contractor that cannot efficiently produce the deliverable required of him halts progress on the project in areas dependent on programming being completed. The project manager will need to
alter the schedule to allow the vendor extra time to produce required code or even replace the vendor altogether. Either route places the project at risk. 2. Project
Budget The organization undertaking a project must know that funding will be available to complete the project. In order to know this
or to locate a sufficient number of funding sources, there must be a realistic project budget that provides more than only a good guess at how much the total project
will cost by the time of its completion. Bostons "Big Dig" and Denvers new airport provide examples of huge projects that ultimately cost much more than what was planned
