since decades past, equality has not been achieved. It has been a long struggle and while progress has been made, it seems that discrimination is still a problem. By the
late nineteenth century and into the twentieth century, cultural restrictions did continue to limit womens activities in public, and this includes the male domains of the workplace (McCammon, 2003).
ONeill (2002) explains that the first wave of the feminist movement in the early twentieth century did win basic legal rights such as the right to own property, or to
vote or to sit in the Senate. The second wave that occurred during the 1960s and 1970s fought for substantive equality and an end to workplace discrimination (2002). Additionally,
it fought for the imposition of equal division of property in respect to divorce, and the introduction of anti-rape laws as well as reproductive rights (2002). Although by this second
wave, there would be many women entering the workforce, equality was still not a reality. A more recent wave might be called the third wave and identifies younger feminist
activists who arrived in the 1980s and 1990s (ONeill, 2002) . Their activity has been characterized by its acceptance of gender as just one of womens many identities
(2002). Many young women do not want to be labeled feminists (2002). Although the intent of the phrase "youve come a long way baby" associated with a feminine cigarette has
some truth, the truth is also that equality has never been realized in the boardroom. It is true that while the double standard for women is slowly fading--at least a
bride is not expected to be a virgin anymore--women are still called derogatory names if they do engage in frequent sex with multiple partners while men are still applauded. One
