will of course want to completely understand the processes and regulations that come from a firms procedure manual. Someone who owns a small business and is completely responsible for an
employee, and does not have to answer to anybody, can simply do what he likes. However, a supervisory manager who must abide company procedure and policies will want to have
a through understanding of them and make sure that their subordinates understand the rules. One can begin to see that the first step in providing a measure of preventative discipline
is to provide employees with the information they need to perform well. That is, employees may simply not be aware of company policies. It may be the case that a
new manager has come on board and the underlings will have a better sense of what is expected of them by the company. At the same time, they may take
advantage of their longevity, despite the fact that they are in subordinate positions. They might say something along the lines that the former boss never expected them to behave as
the current one does. However, a supervisory manager in such a unique position will have to make sure that they are taken seriously. After all, they are in the authoritative
position and must implement the rules. Hence, rules should be applied as the supervisory manager sees fit. Any questions on the part of the supervisory manager should be brought to
the personnel department or to whom the manager reports. Once the rules are set, and everyone is aware of them and that is quite obvious, disciplinary procedures must be created.
