disaster preparedness. Hurricanes present one of the most catastrophic of all natural disasters and require considerable forethought and planning on the part of emergency managers. Pre-planning is one
of the most critical components of disaster preparedness. Hurricane preparations must begin months and possibly years in advance of a hurricane. Plans must be made on the federal,
state, local and personal levels for survival during, and recovery after, a hurricane has passed through an area. On the federal level different agencies must be coordinated such that efforts
are not replicated or overlooked. Any agency with the capacity to aid in the evacuation or recovery after the storm must be involved in the planning phase. Two
of the most critical areas of disaster response is evacuation and the provision of adequate shelter and supplies for those who do not evacuate.
The news media is a necessary addition to the planning and regulatory agencies. It will be the medias job to make the public aware of the necessary
required preparations and plans of the responsible coordinating agencies. The media will make the general public recognizant of the impending dangers and the proper personal actions necessary for protecting
life and property. A plan of action must be in place before a need arises and respective agencies involved with each stage of the storm should be familiar with
