like it that way. Central America is rural, for the most part, and life can easily continue to exist as it is, with people living close to the land. The
many tribes that live in the region are self sustaining. Once a comment was made suggesting that a fourth world war would be fought with bows and arrows. The concept
alluded that civilization had become so advanced that the caliber of weapons used in a third world war would destroy mankind. That is obvious. What is not so obvious about
that comment, is that the destruction of mankind would have occurred by the species own hands. They were integral to the process. Perhaps technology has reached its peak. People
in industrialized nations yearn for simplicity. While various governments try to build Central America up, others believe that such techniques bring the people down in terms lost traditions and values.
While a great deal of lip service is given to the amenities of life in western civilization, nothing is said about lost roots or the importance of community. Developing
the underdeveloped is wrong. Multinationals invade the third world under the guise of helpfulness but truly are there for their own profitability. If effect, what happens is that tradition is
torn apart along with the values inherent in these; globalization destroys the very fabric of these small Central American communities. II. Central America Historical Overview
