is surely a man who has influenced the ideals and thoughts of many others. But, at the same time he is also a man who is confusing and possibly one
who supported evil and vicious actions on the part of leaders. He is often seen as a very selfish and evil man but yet in many ways he was simply
a man accepting the true nature of human beings. His most famous work is "The Prince" and it is in that work that we see the majority of Machiavellis ideas,
ideas and philosophies. In this work, a work intended to get him back in good favor with the Medicis, he addresses many things, and it is often argued that he
digresses a bit here and there. These digressions can offer us insight into Machiavellis original ideas in terms of his message. The following paper presents an examination of some of
the first chapters of Machiavellis "The Prince" in relationship to possible digressions and true intent. Digressions The half of Machiavellis work, chapters 1 through 11, are chapters that
discuss many different characteristics of different empires or governments or states. In these sections he is apparently trying to lay something of a foundation from which the reader can access
the most intelligent way to go about ruling a community or a state. But, as indicated in the introduction, there are places where many believe he digresses from the specific
acts of a ruling state and perhaps brings into play his own desires in relationship to how people could live and/or be ruled pleasantly. The first section we discuss
