incredibly real but are not. The following paper examines why digital art, CGI, and animation are important in the history of film and in the world today. Digital
Art and Animation In looking at the history and development of digital art, CGI and animation in film it is intriguing to note how it was something taken from the
industry of the military, which clearly indicates the importance of developing such techniques. One author notes, "The history of digitally produced animation, and animation produced through the use of a
computer, begins outside the sphere of the entertainment industry, emerging out of the work of military and industrial research teams seeking to use computer graphics for simulation and technical instruction"
(Film Reference). Such information clearly indicates that the film industry is not an industry standing by itself, but that all technological advances seem to benefit one industry or another, advancing
a nation as a whole. The film TRON was the first notable film to really use this sort of technology on a large scale. The characters in the film
are seen in environments "that could not physically exist in the real world, a world where terrains and vehicles are created by computers" (Tron). This sort of technology was used
previously in films such as Westworld, and Star Trek but not to the extent they were in TRON (Tron). In doing so it created a film wherein the production team
