conclusion. This appears to be a fairly standardized process, however differing decisions from similar inputs are not only the result of different he standards and priorities that are applied to
the decision making process, there are also differences in the way people think. There are five different thinking styles; synthesists, idealists, pragmatists, analytical thinker and realists (Sternberg, 1999; Bramson, 1994).
To further complicate the issue most individuals will use different thinking styles at different times, but one style is likely to dominate. There are different approaches and characteristics associated
with each thinking style, with both advantages and disadvantages in different scenarios. Understanding different our own, and others thinking styles may allow for better decisions to be made, allowing for
potential weaknesses as well as bringing together different thinking styles to increase input. Synthesists are the creative thinkers, they tend to be speculative in nature and look
for new and original ideas thinking outside the box. When undertaking a thinking exercise they are very open to new ideas and have a high level of ability to consider
and voice different sides. They look for contradictions and differences and questions the way assumptions are made and are very curious. For this reason the synthesists can be valuable be
in finding innovative solution to problems and can be good problem solvers, but they can also be disruptive and argumentative as they will automatically consider the opposite view to any
one which is voices (Harrison and Bramson, 2002, 1994; Sternberg, 1999). In this thinking process disagreement is perceived as constructive. However the approach is one that tends to reject the
acceptance of the status quo and there is impatient with pure fact based discussion which can be seen as lacking creativity. There is the potential for other thinking styles to
