defined as "a judgment or opinion formed before the facts are known; preconceived idea." It is a belief that may or may not have anything to do with reality. Also,
prejudice isnt simply one mistaken belief; it can take many forms. Some people are prejudiced against those of other races; some dislike people who worship differently; and some dislike those
of other political factions, believing them to be uninformed. This paper considers the kinds of prejudice portrayed in two films: Bend It Like Beckham and Grow Your Own. Discussion Both
films are set in England and touch on some of the same issues, but they also deal with different kinds of prejudice. In Grow Your Own, the conflict is between
the British people and immigrants; in Bend It Like Beckham, the clash is both cultural but also generational. In Grow Your Own, the prejudice is that evidenced by native-born Britons
to immigrants. In popular culture, there is a prejudice that says the English are cold, aloof, and consider themselves superior to everyone else. Much of this is the result
of their history of conquest and colonization: there was a saying that "the sun never sets on the British Empire," and it was literally true. At one point, the British
