Communication between people, either in the business sense or in the strictly personal sense, is probably the most important activity in which human beings engage themselves. The way that we express ourselves, both verbally and non-verbally, however, differs according to our culture and sometimes even our race. It could be speculated, in fact, that there are subtle differences in communications styles between most races which make up our society. African Americans, for example, could be expected to communicate with one another in a manner which is somewhat different than the way whites communication with one another. These communication styles could be speculated to be based on certain unspoken rules. Indeed, society as a whole operates on a series of unspoken rules. This dependence on cultural rules to form practically every aspect of our interactionist lives is, in fact, common across cultures. These rules are particularly interesting when we consider societal expectations in regard to the manner in which information is exchanged, however. Everyday functions of business are intimately tied to communication (Pincus PG, Gaplin PG). Communication is the business world is imperative for success.
