the more important factors appears to be gender. It is a widely accepted contention, in fact, that males and females communicate differently (Miller, 2008). While that is apparently
the case, Cameron (2008) suggests the reason is that because gender affects us in a diversity of ways. These ways are inclusive of our social networks, our habits, and
our self identity (Cameron, 2008; Zhang and Daugherty, 2009). A diversity of authors has examined the variance in communication as it
relates to gender. The differences that they have found are apparent in our romances, our business activities, and even in our social networking. Blair (2009), for example, has
completed an extensive study on how womens clubs have served as critical communication networks at various points in history. Several that have researched gender as it influences communication have
found that women are simply more polite in their linguistics than are men. Others have summed up the situation as women being less assertive in their communication styles (Miller,
2008). While men are more typified by being linguistically intrusive or even rude, women communicate in more refined ways. Sometimes, however, they are lacking in the communicative skills
that they need to convince others to accept their message as legitimate (Miller, 2008). Miller (2008) even associates a womens
lack of communicative assertiveness with our inherent failure as a gender to achieve the same pay rates as our male counterparts. Abowitz, Knox, Zusman and McNeely (2009) associated our
poor communication skills with the male misperception that women want to control men! These researchers contend this is likely true despite the fact that women actually have better communication
