American Revolution was a break from the mother country. It was about asserting independence as an individual state, prompted in part by unfair taxation. It was a colony, or more
accurately a series of colonies, rising up against an oppressor. In some ways, this was similar to the French uprising, but of course, the French rose up against their own
government. It was not a colonial state. Rather, the French government was associated with monarchy and although the people wanted an enlightened monarchy perhaps, they were outraged by the fiscal
irresponsibility they witnessed. The French Revolution was about unfairness in terms of the way that government was run internally. The America Revolution on the other hand was more about an
outside state-at least as the colonists saw it-and it was a fight for independence. A major different between the revolutions is that the French did not want to separate from
government. They wanted a new administration. They wanted new leadership. The Americans wanted a drastic change. They wanted to create a brand new state separate and apart from England.
The results of course were vastly different. The American Revolution ended in pure victory. The ties would be severed. A new government would come forth, but in France, the people
just rocked the boat and lasting change would only come about through time. Yes, the extraordinary monarchy with Marie Antoinettes influence would be a thing of the past, but France
would never really change all that much. The revolution was won and the monarchy was out of the picture, but Napoleon was no great leader in terms of domestic
quarrel and so, when his leadership ended in 1815, there would once again be political chaos. Soon, monarchal rule returned. The Napoleon dynasty was in fact concerned with reversing
