This raises the question of how art from other eras incorporates political and cultural messages and whether or not interpretations of art that encompass these topics illustrate the perspective of the artist or the art observer. In other words, this illustrates the need to help students take into consideration historical context, as well as the political or sociological values that a particular artwork may suggest. In regards to formulating lesson plans that encompass this aspect of art, this writer/tutor suggests selecting Diego Riveras mural Pan American Unity, which is on display at the City College of San Francisco and formally titled Marriage of the Artistic Expression of the North and the South on this Continent.
