ending circle of life and love. As a central figure The Die Walkure, the second part of the Ring Cycle, it can be argued that this is Bruenhildes story(OperaResource, 2002).
Die Walk?re, which is an opera in three acts, Part II of Der Ring des Nibelungen, libretto and music by Richard Wagner (1813-1883), had its preliminary premiere 26th June 1870
at the Court Theatre in Munich together with Das Rheingold(OperaResource, 2002). But what determines hero or heroine status for a character? First of all, in literature, which this libretto
was created from, there are some key identifying traits that a hero or heroine tends to exhibit. First of all, the hero must be thrust into a situation or adventure
that he or she cannot refuse, even if they wanted to. This forces them to act and make sometimes rash decisions. In the second act of this opera, the audience
is introduced to Bruenhilde, who adores her father, Wotan. When he calls her to him and asks that she protect his moral son, Siegmund, she makes plans to begin the
journey at once. However, before she can leave, Frika, Wotans wife enters the scene. Bruenhilde learns that Hundings marriage rights should by all laws be defended against Siegmund. Bruenhilde watches
as Wotan argues that Siegmund could secure the return of the ring by winning it back from the dragon Fafner before the ring dwarves have a chance to take it
back. Fricka does not listen and insists that Wotan follow the law. He has to obey or he will lose all his powers. After Fricka leaves, Wotan calls Bruenhilde back
