case, the text is on the left and the illustration is on the right. The web site is the Asia Society, and they say "Most of the works of art
you will see here are on display at the Asia Society in the exhibition Hunt for Paradise: The Court Arts of Iran, 1507-1576"; the Asia Societys physical address is 725
Park Avenue, New York, NY 10021 where presumably visitors can see the texts themselves (Asia Society, 2005). Our first illustration/text is "Kavus leaves for Mazandaran," and the description mentions that
the "sun displayed its golden crown above the horizon"; the warriors dressed for battle carrying "heavy maces"; their banners "filled the sky"; and they advanced over rocky ground (Kavus leaves
for Mazandaran). Then, it says, Kavus camped, "spread golden brocades and covered the rocky ground with fine carpets" (Kavus leaves for Mazandaran). The illustration is quite different. It shows us
an army advancing on horseback, but other than that it shares almost none of the details given in the text. The "golden crown" of the sun would indicate that its
dawn, but the illustration shows full daylight. The warriors are all archers; no one is carrying a mace. There is one banner shown, a dark indigo that the caption refers
to as the "kings banner"; it can hardly be said to "fill the sky," and it appears that they are advancing over smooth terrain, not rocky ground. Finally, since the
illustration is of the army on the move it may be expecting too much to see brocades and carpets, but there is not even an indication that anyone is carrying
