week. So many people kept telling me that it was an incredibly book about the history of some of the Native American tribes in this country. And, although it is
not my field of interest which, as you know is the Civil War and slavery, it was incredibly enlightening I think. I really enjoyed it. I assume you have read
it? TL: Yeah, I read it a long time ago and then just finished it again last night. Funny how you read a book when you are younger and then
if you read it later in life you gain new insight. DM: Well of course that happens because we are more experienced, but what really struck you differently this
time? TL: I think it has to do more with what I focused on this time. When I was younger I think I was more interested in the visions and
the battles. I did not really see the subtle underlying message of the story as much as I did this time around. And, I believe that when you read this
book and only focus on the visions and physical battles you miss so much and are more apt to see the book as nothing more than another Native American narrative.
DM: I couldnt really say, considering that I only first read this book last week, but I think I know what you mean. TL: OK, you know how most
people equate the Native Americans with their visions, their drug use, and their particular culture? DM: Yeah. TL: There is certainly a lot of that in this book and that
makes it incredibly informative from a historical perspective. But, there is also so much more. When we really read the book we can see the murder of a people, not
