thy sword upon thy thigh, O most Mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right
hand shall teach thee terrible things (Psalms, 45: 2-4). Them This passage from the forty-fifth Psalm was ostensibly written to
be performed at a royal wedding, and seems superficially to praise the son being married. However, like many parts of the Book of Psalms, the prose contains what can only
be prophetic references to the forthcoming birth of Christ. Thusly, this quote is representative of one of the many links between the Old Testament and the New: the social veneration
of values that would soon come to be embodied in Jesus Christ (Houtman, 2005). In other words, the text here refers in one sense to the marriage party, but in
another real sense, it describes Christ. Christ is indeed "fairer" than the children of men, and is directly associated with the instrument of grace. He is also said to have
received the blessings of God. What is most Christ-like about the description given in the Psalm, however, is the use of the word "prosperity" to refer to forms of non-material
prosperity such as those that will soon be advocated by Jesus: "truth and meekness and righteousness". This association of "meekness" with strength, prosperity, and given the social context of the
