is often cited as an essential skill for any business student; it is taught in the way case studies are examined. The students are taught from an early stage to
critically analyse cases in order to identify the relevant factors in order to design and assess potential solutions. This is a transferable skill, and the way it is used is
not necessarily limited to use in the classroom. Indeed, as MBA level there are specific courses in critical thinking in order to develop the skills (Antonacopoulou, 2004, p3). When defining
critical thinking, there is no singular universally agreed definition. However, a general trend in all of the approaches is the presence of questioning and scepticism (Antonacopoulou, 2004, p4). This can
include questioning information that is being provided and being sceptical about existing assumptions which may exist, even in the form of empirical knowledge, common sense or personal biases. While learning
to undertake case studies in university impacts in critical thinking skills within this context, the approach may be expanded, so it can be developed within a practical environment. Case studies
may provide a controlled approach to developing the skills, but real world events provide a greater opportunity for learning, as they may cover a wider range of issues and incorporate
complexities which are not was present in case that is designed specifically for learning of business students. Applying critical thinking to events which one is involved in or just observed
in the workplace provides for a wealth of inputs to practice the application of knowledge, and in some cases may also provide practice in terms of implementing solutions in order
