all around the globe. It is, more often than not, a religion generally associated with China and the East and as such the history of Buddhism in China is an
important topic to understand if one wishes to learn anything about Buddhism, the origins of Buddhism and the development of Buddhism. Buddhism arrived, for the most part, in China in
the first century and from there developed and lured many followers. It still serves today as one of the most influential religions although it is comprised of many different forms
or schools of original Buddhism. The following paper examines the origins and development of Buddhism in China. Development of Buddhism "China
has been the goal of European merchants and adventurers since ancient times. Civilization arose in China for the first time c. 3500 BC. not long before city states and the
written word also appeared in India and the Middle East" (China: Historic Backgound, 2006). In other words, China has long been an incredibly important destination for a number of reasons.
One of the ancient functions of China involved what is known as the Silk Road. This was a particular road that enabled people to come to and move through China
in order to trade, with the understanding that China had many things that other parts of the world did not possess. It was also an incredibly influential travel route as
many cultures came together, shared information, technology, ideas, and clearly religion as well. The Silk Road was a powerful road and was clearly responsible for bringing Buddhism to China.
