and learning process. This theory of child development links the way learners learn to the behaviors of others in their social collective. When considering a pedagogical approach to
violence-reduction in schools, including the assimilation of anti-bullying messages, it is important to understand that many of the opinions and behaviors that learners introduce in the school setting are encouraged,
supported and even initiated in the home setting. Developing strategies to address bullying in the school setting, then, may have limited overall outcomes because of the social context in
which the learners learn outside of the school setting. Considering the application of Banduras social learning theory to the issue of school violence/bullying can provide insight into one method
for addressing this problem. Social Learning Theory Alfred Banduras social learning theory is a constructivist theory that has been used in the educational setting based on concepts like modeling
and collaboration (Leonard, 2002). It was Banduras contention that children learn from modeled behaviors within a social context and children naturally adopt behaviors that they observe being done by
their peers, educators and their parents in specific situations. As a component of this, Bandura recognized some conflicts with stage-based psychological theories, which suggest that cognitive readiness can not
be coaxed (Bandura, 1976). Bandura maintained, though, that it is possible to create an "environment conducive to learning" in which a combination of social elements and the modeling of
behaviors and concepts can move learners towards understanding (Bandura, 1976, p. 183). The concept of situated learning often comes into play as a part of the psychology of classroom
development and in applying social learning theory to pedagogical approaches (Pritchard & Woollard, 2010). Situated learning is "based on the concept that learning normally occurs as a function of
