over recent times, with an increased level of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) there have been some positive influences. However, there is still a great divide between those with and without,
poverty is still high and much of the infrastructure of the area is reflective of the need of economic improvement. There is an emerging middle class, but traditional problems such
as dense housing conditions, a lack of access to health and education for many of the population as well as the problems associated with poverty and lack of a welfare
state still exist in this area. When looking at the way in which the city could improve Isisbter (2006) states three approaches which
could be adopted. The first of the theories when looking underdevelopment in an area is that of modernisation. This theory where it is hypothesised that the only solution is for
the third world governments to drag their people into the modern capitalist world leaving behind the traditional ways of life (Isisbter, 2006). The problem with this approach is that it
does not take into account the damage which is ready occurred to the traditional way of life, which has certainly occurred in Bangalore. In addition to this the approach is
one which disregards the need for help for the worlds poor as well is the moral and ecological problems which may be attached to a developing country moving towards capitalism.
In effect, many the developing countries would repeat the mistakes made by the developed countries. Therefore, although it can be argued in any country that the government needs to play
