trend and also to assess the relevant level of volatility in any potential investment. For this paper we will use hypothetical data seen in appendix 1. Any investment portfolio will
need to meet the criteria set out by an investor. Therefore in looking at the requirements, the past performance and using knowledge of the way in which the market may
perform an investor may put together a portfolio where there is a spread of risk and also liquidity for withdrawals or for new investment opportunities (Howells and Bain, 1998).
Using the information that has been given the different investments may be assessed. With any investment there will be a risk profile, with a higher level of risk being associated
with a higher potential reward, known as the risk premium, to account for this risk. There are several methods of assessment that have
been used by different investors to try to identify shares that are good value. Looking at equities we need to consider how the market operates. The market place works on
a system of expectation and well as logical influences. If it is believed by a broker that a company is about to announce some good news such as increased
profits or increased dividend then they may decide that this is a good share to buy as one the announcement is made there will be an increase in the share
price. At the same time there will probably be many others who believe that the announcement will not be so good, and there will be the people wishing to share.
