Riordan County Public Library. Like all public libraries, this is a publicly funded institution that receives money from the local county, raised through taxes. The organization is not responsible for
generating a profit, but it does need to justify its budget through carrying out activities such as ensuring that sufficient traffic and membership occurs to warrant the investment in the
institution, and that the institutions fiscal losses are kept to a minimum. One of the most important operations within the library, then, is the maintenance of inventory through controlling stock
and collecting on overdue accounts. In the past, this has been a major problem for Riordan County because the librarys customer base was very large, and it was difficult
to keep up with losses and overdue titles without a dedicated member of staff to do so. However, lost stock has resulted in more than $10,000 in losses last year,
and threatens future budgets for the organization. Therefore, it must be addressed immediately. The use of information technology can radically augment how this particular need is addressed to allow the
organization a great deal more efficiency and flexibility in regards to how the problem is handled. The development of this project will take place between the librarys IT manager who
