indicate if the Apostles kept notes during their ministry with Christ. We do know some wrote down what their leader was saying. Marks Gospel is believed to be authored by
John Mark who was close to Peter and who followed Peter.1 Mark also followed and learned from Paul. Marks is the first Gospel having been written in the 50s or
60s.2 That was only 20 to 30 years after Christs Crucifixion and Resurrection. By contrast, Matthew was one of the Apostles, as was Peter. There is a continuing debate
about when this Gospel was written. On one side of the camp are those who think Matthew wrote it in the 50s, on another side are those who think both
Mathew and Luke used Marks Gospel as their primary reference so it would have been written as late as the 70s.3 This dating becomes a problem for pinpointing when Luke
was written as well, for the same reason. Luke is believed to be Pauls "dear friend Luke, the doctor" mentioned in Colossians.4 Luke is also the author of Acts of
the Apostles. John, not one of the synoptic Gospels, but he was also an Apostle. Controversy exists over the date this one was written. One group believes it was as
early as the 50s and others believe it was written not before 85.5 Acts could have been written by Luke anytime after 63.6 The dates of the Gospels are important
because these were the first Gospels written and would subsequently accepted as canon. The Canon was not set until the mid-300s so the gospels and different letters had been in
use for more than two centuries prior to the New Testaments canon being determined and approved. There is an interesting evolution of the term canon. Initially, canon referred to a
