Such codes are intimately tied with ethics. The topic of ethics infiltrates every professional field of occupation. Education is no exception. The establishment of a student code
of conduct is one of the most effective ways of solving ethical issues and dilemmas or even circumventing them before they occur as well as beneficial in providing a secure
and orderly environment in which a student can most effectively learn (Directorate of School Education, 1994). Codes of conduct are beneficial in that they provide a moral framework and
heighten the likelihood of student success not only while in college but in their professional lives once they leave college. While at one time only a narrowly defined group
of schools even considered the establishment of professional codes of ethics, more and more schools are investigating this option today. While some schools have a rigidly defined set of
ethics in place which allow them to discern acceptable student from unacceptable behavior, others simply operate on a loosely defined set of rules.
The move toward developing student codes of conduct in education is not that surprising. This move reflects the fact that ethics come into play in many of
the decisions we make in life. This is true of both personal decisions and decisions we might make as a group as a component of our professional or societal
responsibilities. Likewise, there are many possibilities for ethical code violations in practically every aspect of our lives. Our lives as students are no exception. The ground rules
