of Detroit is comprised of residents that is close to 82% black and about 12% white ("Detroit Population and Demographics," 2007). Interestingly, Detroits Arab population, though small in comparison to
other ethnicities, happens to be the largest in the world with the exception of the Middle East (Payne, 2003). It is a rather young city. The median age is 30.9
("Detroit Population and Demographics," 2007). Of the households in Detroit, close to 65% are families ("Detroit Population and Demographics," 2007). This is a city plagued with problems. It is a
city that is considered a part of the manufacturing or steel belt and so, it has been hit by economic dilemmas due to the fact that there has been cut
backs in the industries there. This has affected residents. At the same time, Detroit is a city with character. It is very close to Canada so it is not out
of the question to go to a Canadian city for a few hours. This makes Detroit rather unique. Up in that area, it is one of the coldest cities in
America. Detroit is also considered the eleventh largest city in the United States. While the city has a lot of baggage, it also has a relevantly new, sharp mayor who
has made a lot of progress since his stint in that role. While a struggling entity, Detroit has a great deal of promise. II. Government The city of
Detroit has a very long list of City Departments and Agencies. The current Mayor is Kwame M. Kilpatrick ("City of Detroit Official Web Site," 2007). At the city web site,
