reason, a number of metrics have been developed in order to create some kind of approximation. One of the foremost of these is the "ecological footprint", a metric intended to
measure the extent to which one is dependent upon non-renewable resources through a number of questionnaire items; this measurement is then quantitatively expressed in terms of how many earths would
have to exist to support the human population if everyone behaved similarly to the respondent (Center for Sustainable Economy, 2010a). This paragraph helps the student present his or her
own personal results in the ecological footprint test, as well as to assess the underlying meaning of the figure. When I took the ecological footprint test, I was somewhat shocked
at the response. I had always considered myself a somewhat conscientious person, and so I was stunned when the test indicated that my behavior necessitated the existence of 37.4 earths
in order to support the strain I exacted upon the environment. I wasnt expecting such results, and almost immediately, I began to question my own behavior and activities in regards
to how environmentally friendly they were. In other words, by calculating my ecological footprint, it caused me to begin to assess what changes I might make to my lifestyle in
order to live in a more environmentally responsible way. Changing My Ecological Footprint Having determined that there was a significant need to change my personal behavior in
