given them to women, raped these women, and the women have generally been completely unaware of what took place. They are, as the name suggests, drugs that are used on
dates in order to engage in the act of raping a woman. The following paper examines the toxicology and forensic detection of date rape drugs. Detection of Date
Rape Drugs Although many drugs, even alcohol, can be given the term of a date rape drug the real drugs that bear the
name and the drugs to be discussed herein are "the drugs Rohypnol, Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate (GHB) and Ketamine Hydrochloride" (Date Rape Drugs, 2007). What makes these drugs unique, and also
very effective as a date rape drug, involve the fact that they are "virtually undetectable; they are tasteless, odorless and colorless. All traces of the drugs will leave the body
within 72 hours of ingestion and are not found in any routine toxicology screen or blood test - doctors and police have to be looking specifically for them and they
have to look quickly" (Date Rape Drugs, 2007). As can be seen, the drugs are often all but impossible to detect for the
one given the drug and the way in which the drugs work illustrate that the individual has little or no idea of what takes place after the drug takes affect.
