Starbucks is becoming ubiquitous in well-populated areas, now throughout the world as well as within the United States. With more than 11,000 locations, in-store coffee and coffee supply sales
and licensed bottled drinks available at grocery- and convenience stores everywhere, the Internet remains one of the few untouched venues through which Starbucks could significantly increase sales. The purpose
here is to develop and implement an ecommerce site and add m-business capabilities to existing Internet infrastructure. Business Requirements Analysis Develop an Ecommerce Site
Starbucks only current route of accomplishing online sales is through Cooking.com, which takes orders for only a limited number of Starbucks items. An issue for the new ecommerce
site is that the site visitor be able to navigate through several pages without encountering either a "pop up" screen or the users own pop-up blocker. Currently, efforts to
go to a location where it is possible to buy Starbucks coffee online meets resistance when approached through America Online (AOL) and its common pop-up blocker. Other Internet service
providers (ISPs) offer pop-up blocker service as well, but likely none that are as effective as AOLs or as resistant to user override. As an individual ISP among a
crowded market of hundreds, the inability of users of a single ISP would not be of great concern. The difference here is that AOL is the countrys largest ISP
by far, and the inability of an AOL user to easily access the sales portion of the site effectively turns away literally millions of customers and potential customers.
