profitably that were enjoyed previously. Therefore, there is the need to determined the current situation with some research that will look at both he industry in which the hotel
has to compete in order to allow comparison, as well as looking more specifically at areas of improvement that the hotel may undertaken. These may be physical and service improvement,
or less tangible improvements to enhance occupancy, such as changing the way the hotel is marketed. To undertake research we have to define exactly what the desired outcome is,
otherwise research will be to general and directionless. The main target is to identify the areas of the resort where changes could either directly or indirectly improve the level of
occupancy and retain or increase profitability per room. This will mean gathering reliable good quality information and then using this to formulate a corporate level strategy and a business level
action plan. The plan should be have build in tangible measures to assess the success or failure and the research should be statistically reliable so that result can
be applied with confidence. The research also has to be placed in the correct context, whilst studying the hotel itself, this would be short sighted. The hotel operates within
a comparative environment. It is competing with other nearby hotels and resorts for the customer. Therefore, the hotel needs to be aware of the level of competition, such as facilities,
