an analysis of the data that is collected. The specific design used for this type of research is determined based on the topic or question being investigated (AECT, 2001). An
example could be: What types of technology are used in high school freshman math classes? Corrrelational research is used to determine what relationship(s) exist between two or more variables.
The purposes are to: identify variables that relate to each other; make predictions; and to investigate possible cause-and-effect relationships (Picciano, 2011). Corrrelational research is quantitative while descriptive research might
be quantitative or qualitative (AECT, 2001). Qualitative research wants to determine the "why" of something, quantitative research wants to know the relationships between two or more events, conditions, etc. or
the research describes events (AECT, 2001). There are numerous methods for collecting data for descriptive research. Questionnaires and surveys are the most common methods used in this type of research
(College of Education, 2007), but they must be constructed carefully and the instructions must be very clear. Interviews is another method. The advantage of interviews over questionnaires is that the
investigator can ask follow-up questions for clarity as well as for depth. The disadvantage has to do with the interpretation. There needs to be a guide for all persons analyzing
the interview responses (College of Education, 2007). Observational research collects data by observing people in their natural environment or sometimes, through role-playing. This method investigates what is happening and in
what sequence (College of Education, 2007). The researcher must identify specific behaviors for observation and during observations, the researcher needs to match the target behavior with the actual behavior (College
of Education, 2007). Generally, a code or a set of symbols is used to record behaviors. A time period for observations is determined, also. One of the concerns with
