want to end that state of consciousness. Often, people know when they are dreaming but it is very often the case that such a revelation comes far into the dream
state. Only after odd escapades does the dreamer realize that he is dreaming everything that came before. While many people can tell when they are dreaming at some point in
their dream, another question arises as to how can one know if he or she is truly not dreaming? To a rational individual who believes what he experiences and
what he is taught in school, a dream is a dream. Whether one knows they are dreaming at the time is irrelevant. They go to sleep, they dream and then
they wake up. However, such questions surface in philosophy and it seems as if seeing is not always believing. After all, there are optical illusions. Often, people see things and
it turns out to be something else. Sometimes, UFO sightings turn out to be weather balloons. How can anyone be sure that what they see is reality? How can anyone
be sure of anything? After all, they just know that they exist but everything else is questionable. How do they really know that their lives are real and that the
entire world does not revolve around them? Descartess dreaming argument likely suggests more than ones inability to determine whether or not they are dreaming. Rather, the argument draws on ideas
