is important as well. People try to take care of their bodies as best they can but do realize that there is a mind-body connection. If one does not want
to exercise for example they realize that they need to "psyche" themselves up for the treadmill. Indeed, the mind and body connection is something that people understand in ordinary life.
Yet, it has been a subject of more serious contemplation for philosophers as well. In philosophy, however, the mind becomes more difficult to define. Honderich (1995) concludes: "If minds are
real features of people then there may be aspects of these features which are not easily described in terms of everyday concepts such as thinking, perceiving and feeling" (p.570). Yes,
the mind is complex and is used for a variety of things. It is something quite functional and definable biologically, but there is a suggestion of a spiritual nature. There
is something more to the mind than appears on the surface. In terms of the mind, while it is hard to define, one knows that it can play tricks. For
example, when using hallucinogens, or when under severe stress, or when one develops a disease that to some extent alters the mind, one is not perceiving reality correctly. Yet, while
all of these situations leads to a change in perception, who is to say that the mind is perceiving things correctly or not? What is reality anyway? In respect to
the mind-body puzzle, Descartes had written about a series of meditations that can help resolve some of the lingering questions regarding the mind and body. First, it should be noted
