of antidepressants are tricyclic such as Elavil, Clomipramine, Desipramine, Doxepin, Tofranil and Pamelor; Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft; and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) such
as Moclobemide, Nardil and Parnate. While SSRIs and MAOIs share some common side effects such as nausea, headaches, insomnia, dizziness, vomiting and diarrhea, tricyclic drugs can cause confusion, constipation,
urination difficulty, faint feeling and rapid heartbeat (Berkow, 2000). Inasmuch as people typically experience different reactions to such drugs, one must take the
time to establish not only the right dosage but also the appropriate choice. It is not the least bit unusual for people to have to change their medication mid-stream
when undesirable setbacks occur; at this point, the licensed physician will likely prescribe another drug in an effort to help pinpoint the most effective medication. With experts estimating that
"depression costs the nation $43 billion a year for medications, professional care, and lost school- and workdays" (American Psychiatric Association, 2003), one cannot overstate the critical nature of such an
epidemic. The ever-progressing nature of medical technology has rendered the mental health industry a recipient of myriad psychopharmacological drugs that help patients afflicted
with a number of conditions; the extent to which psychopharmacological drugs have improved quality of life for the clinically depressed population is both grand and far-reaching. One medication within
this restorative arsenal, for example, addresses several mental problems, not the least of which include mania, manic-depressive illness, depression, intermittent explosive disorder and mood instability. Lithiums success in addressing
