"Little Shop of Horrors" was released in the 1980s, one dentist commented that one particular scene had the capacity to set dentistry back 50 years. Playing on adults fear
of dentist office activities, the film both highlighted the long-standing fear and made fun of it at the same time. Much of the
interest surrounding dental health promotion is directed toward children and adolescents. This is understandable since individuals in these groups have a lifetime ahead of them. The rationale is
to create good habits and avoid the problems created by lack of attention to dental health. On the other hand, there are many adults who "know" that dental health
is important for them as well, but fail to keep up with their own. These adults need to be educated in what some of the many techniques new in
recent years can mean for them in terms of addressing dental caries. Theoretical Base New patients frequently come into dental offices through the
development of conditions that constitute an emergency for the patient. Others, however, will seek out a dentist to begin what they know they have neglected in the past.
It can begin with a general cleaning and assessment of the condition of the new patients oral health, progressing to addressing caries that may have developed in the meantime.
