Introduction Terrorism is a major threat in the world. Between 2006 and 2009, more than 60 percent of the countries in the world experienced at least one
terrorist attack. Eleven countries experienced 1,000 attacks and seven or those experienced 2,000 attacks. There were 18,000 attacks in Iraq, 5,400 in Afghanistan, and 5,00 in Pakistan (Wilkinson 1). At
the same time, the United Kingdom, the United States and other NATO forces have losses hundreds of soldiers. Jihadist groups have not won but neither have the NATO forces. Further,
despite Al Qaedas determination, they have not been able to launch another attack at the same scale as the 9/11 attacks on America (Wilkinson 1). Still, democracies must remain
alert and vigilant. Terrorism is generally defined as the use of threat and/or violence by an organized group against another group for the purpose of achieving specific political objectives. Most
often, the victims are civilians because this causes more panic and fear. Terrorism is a weapon of those who have little or not power. If they could achieve their objectives
through elections or other means, it is likely they would do so (Lutz and Lutz). This essay will explore different aspects of terrorism. This includes exploring the general consensus
that it is caused by having no means of expressing dissatisfaction. Democracy Provides an Environment for Terrorism There are more terrorist attacks in democracies than in nondemocracies.
