dementia in general. In the past it could be noted that dementia was considered something of a normal condition for people as they get older, as people slowly lose their
ability to remember things. In the past it was generally just referred to as senility, and it is still sometimes referred to as such today (MedlinePlus). But, as mentioned, with
growing concern and with the growth of medical discoveries, dementia and other mental conditions have become more clearly understood. The following paper examines dementia, and also discusses how it differs
from Alzheimers. Dementia Dementia is simply associated with senility, the lessening of the brains functions and ability to be alert, and
remember, as a person ages. But, there is far more to the condition of dementia than simply getting older and less alert.
"Dementia is the loss of mental functions -- such as thinking, memory, and reasoning -- that is severe enough to interfere with a persons daily functioning" (WebMD). It is not
actually considered to be a disease, by itself, but generally something caused by diseases or by various conditions (WebMD). Another author indicates how "Dementia is a word for a group
of symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain. It is not a specific disease" (MedlinePlus). When a person has dementia
they may find it difficult to do normal things like eating or getting dressed because they are not thinking clearly enough (MedlinePlus). They can also find it difficult to solve
