be defined, through synonym, process, and negation. From the name alone we can use the tactic of definition "synonym" to assume that science fiction combines that of science with fiction
but there is much more to the definition (Decter, 2010). Science fiction is not just a story about a robot but a story about how that robot searches for its
humanity or how humanity exploits the robot for their own needs. Science fiction explores what it means to be human in a world of technological advancement. While technology plays a
central role in any good science fiction story the real star is humanity and their place in the Universe. A good science fiction tale will reveal to the reader what
it means to be human. Highly imaginative the genre has several offshoots that serve to display human behavior in a variety of ways. Mary Shelleys "Frankenstein" is hailed by many
to be the first science fiction story. It is through Victors scientific break through that the reader is introduced to the idea of life created not by God but by
man and the repercussions produced by such an event. Science does play a key role in any story but it can also be used as a simple device or as
a setting. Star Wars is highly advanced technologically speaking but the real story is not about the technology but the people and how they must fight for their freedom in
