There are several definitions of marketing and most seem to have a decent understanding of the technique. The Chartered Institute of Management is a leading authority for businesses that often look to the organization for training needs. This organizations definition of marketing is "...a management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer requirements profitably." This is a decent enough definition and covers the main points of what marketing is. Marketing may seem straightforward at this point. A business owner has a product, he wants to sell the product, so he does just that and tries to sell the product. Unfortunately, there are a few more steps to the process so properly understanding what marketing is supposed to be and what it is supposed to achieve is crucial. Marketing is a way of expanding a business by reaching the proper customer base. This is the ultimate goal of a proper marketing campaign (Gundlach & Wilkie 2009, p. 259-264). In order to reach this goal, managers, CEOS, and other high level business administrators must develop a strategy or a plan that is designed to complete several agendas. These marketing strategies are designed to be straightforward and simple that gets to the heart of the matter.
