for myriad changes and influences, the First Crusade was at first interpreted as being "just another transient affliction" (Irwin, 1997, p. 43); however, it soon proved itself as something much
more significant. Because the First Crusade so greatly resembled other combative operations that floated down Syria and Palestines coastline, it was not readily perceived to be the actual threat
it ultimately became. Culture, religion and politics made unusual bedfellows during the Crusades, yet they were as intertwined as any two entities could
be when one considers the vast changes that occurred because of the Jihad. One epic in particular offers a considerable amount of insight as to the political influence that
this historic era had upon the literary period. "Rich in adventure and romance" (Malti-Douglas, 1997, p. 68), Firdawsis account effectively recorded how pre-Islamic Iran came up from under the
oppression of its initial and final ruler, only to fall to defeat under Muslim Arab forces. As a symbol of Irans cultural identification, Firdawsis works have become a monument
that represents the span between the beginning and ending reign, which ultimately ceased in the seventh century (Malti-Douglas, 1997, p. 68). The concept
of Jihad has long been at the forefront of controversy in its indignation toward government and strong-arm tactics. Ordinary citizens who comprise the Jihad believe the very bureaucracy that
