was nothing more than a scapegoat for the unrest of a people. Of course, Louis XVI was guilty of many things, but perhaps he was most guilty for being nothing
more than a man who was more "interested in pursing his own interests than in managing public affairs. His lack of skills and interest eventually led to his execution" (World
History). This indicates that he was perhaps merely nothing more than a weak leader without conviction. As such he was an easy target for many, including the Assembly at the
time who took advantage of his position and then pointed the finger at him, arguing that he must be executed. The people were more than happy to agree and, in
fact, his execution was imminent and a trial was truly only a formality. With that in mind the following paper examines some of the issues and facts surrounding Louis XVIs
actions and execution, pointing to possible weaknesses in the trial that could have perhaps have been argued differently from the defenses standpoint. The paper only presents possibilities in order to
assist the student with their own uniquely creative argument of how they, Jacques de Boisvert, would have argued the case for Louis XVI. The Facts and a Fight One
of the most powerful facts involving the trial or the times preceding the trial involved the imprisonment of the king and his family. One author indicates, "The first question which
